Driving Innovation Podcast: From Corporate to Transformational Startup Leader

by | Blogs

The 15th episode in Tech Alpharetta’s Driving Innovation podcast series features Valarie Mackey, CEO, WrightNow Solutions.

WrightNow Solutions provides training in business acumen, financial literacy, and technical skills to the individuals and organizations that it serves. It is committed to diversity – in its talent, thinking, and client solutions. Its mission is to stimulate economic growth by providing companies, entrepreneurs, and individuals with training and resources needed to achieve next level success, while having a positive impact in the communities in which they live, serve, and operate.

Mackey attended North Carolina A&T State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. After graduating, she worked in management consulting with Ernst & Young, and then progressed to The Coca-Cola Company.  She built her career in a variety of roles and worked with teams all over the world.

While she enjoyed orchestrating the delivery of customer-centric technology solutions, she found the team development aspect more rewarding, and shifted attention from the technology to focus on the people that deliver the technology solutions. While she was at Coca-Cola, she worked with a program that cultivated relationships with successful tech startup organizations and facilitated their connections to corporations to further enhance their innovation. This inspired Mackey to create WrightNow Solutions.

“There is a high demand for talent and a low supply. Our goal is the help close this gap,” says Mackey.

Mackey works with a talented staff to create workforce development programs, facilitate professional development training from entry level to executive level, and partner with organizations to enhance capabilities through inventive ways of accessing, equipping and engaging talent.

“From what I’ve seen, technology skills aren’t necessarily what make someone successful in a tech career, it’s the professional development skills,” adds Mackey. “We develop both of these skills, because that seems to be the biggest barrier for people to get in the door and get promoted today.”

Listen and watch to learn more about Mackey’s professional journey and work at WrightNow Solutions.
