The Inside Scoop on Georgia’s First Fiberhood
ALPHARETTA, Ga., October 21, 2014 —The Greater Alpharetta Tech Network (GATN), an association dedicated to uniting and strengthening the Greater Alpharetta technology community by hosting thought leadership, educational and tech networking events and opportunities, in partnership with North American Properties (NAP), will be hosting its fall thought leadership event, “The Inside Scoop on Georgia’s First Fiberhood,” on Thursday, November 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Avalon, which is located at 6100 Avalon Boulevard in Alpharetta.
The speakers, including VP of Development John Kelley and VP of Marketing Liz Gillespie from North American Properties (Avalon’s owners), and the same company that revamped Atlantic Station, as well as Max Kipfer, Executive Vice President from Hotwire Communications, will discuss the technology behind Avalon’s “fiberhood,” the fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband network which provides for fiber connection speeds of 1 gigabit.
Avalon, the new $600 million mixed-use development in Alpharetta, will be the home of 13 concept restaurants, entertainment, upscale retail, and luxury residential living. Avalon’s owners, NAP, have placed FTTP connectivity as a top priority for all of its developments, with Avalon leading the way as the first fiberhood in the state.
The wireless technology used in Avalon will create a fiber connection with speeds up to 100 times faster than other services in the area. From a consumer’s perspective, FTTP is revolutionary, because it provides access to Internet speeds over 100 times faster than traditional platforms. For business users, the benefits are endless, allowing the capability to upload and download large date files and work securely in the “cloud” at lightning-fast speeds.
The evening presents a unique opportunity to hear from technology thought leaders, connect with local technology executives, and experience Avalon. “GATN’s event at Avalon promises to be a highly informative and entertaining evening for our members and guests,” says Karen Cashion, founder and president of GATN. “North American Properties and Hotwire Communications will be discussing the cutting-edge technology behind the fiberhood at Avalon, and our attendees will be treated to a “Taste of Avalon” at several of Avalon’s new restaurants including Ted’s Montana Grill, Whole Foods and Goldberg’s Bagel Company & Deli.”
GATN’s event is complimentary for members, and $15 in advance or $20 at the door for non-members. For more details on GATN and to register for this event, visit https://gatnconnect.org/ecategory/events/.
